Christian made his debut for Denmark in a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands in November 2001. He has since been a regular for Denmark in midfield and occasionally in defence.
He has played 59 matches, of these he has started 52 matches, and scored four goals. His most recent goal was in the impressive 3-2 win against Portugal away. Christian featured for Denmark in both the Euro 2004 and the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Olympic medals
The Danish national team figured prominently in the first Olympics and won silver in both the 1908 and 1912 Olympics. More Olympics medals followed in 1948 with a bronze and yet another silver medal in 1960.
The Danish national team was strictly for amateurs until 1971 and the abolishment of amateurism led to improved results in the big tournaments. The international breakthrough came when Denmark qualified for the 1984 European Championships and lost in the semi-final on penalties to Spain.
Excellent football
Even more impressive was the qualification for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, where the Danes lost to Spain in the second round, but played excellent football in the tournament. The win in the 1992 European Championships remain the highlight in Danish football. The dark-horse Denmark won the final against arch-rivals Germany 2-0.
Since then Denmark has become a recognised European force regularly qualifying for the World Cup and European Championships.
Great Danish players include Peter Schmeichel, Michael and Brian Laudrup, Preben Elkjær, Morten Olsen and Allan Simonsen.
